HOW WE TEACH

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT®) units are taught at various prisons throughout the state of Texas by AIMVETS volunteers.  Currently, AIMVETS is the only organization that facilitates MRT® classes in Texas prisons.  The classes are designed to use a multi-prong, interactive technique that requires inmates to use multiple points of their brain.

Classes are structured to provide interaction between facilitator and inmates and between inmates and inmates.  This is accomplished by the facilitator first presenting an overview of the material to be covered and a quick discussion of the topic with the inmates.  The inmates then read the unit and answer questions, which require written responses and/or picture responses.  The inmates then reconvene in groups of 6-10 and present their responses.  This leads to healthy and sometimes lively discussions about choices and outcomes.
